2011 - November 19 and December 10

On November 19th, the mentors and mentees signed pledges to each other committing themselves principles of conduct to maximize the experience for all. New York State Assembly Member Keith L.T. Wright spoke to the group about his work in the Assembly, and asked them what laws they would like to see passed.

On December 10th, the Rising 5th Graders learned about Kwanzaa from special guest speaker Randolph M. McLaughlin, Esq. Then Mr. McLaughlin and Randolph Scott-McLaughlin II (joined by some of the students playing African percussion instruments provided by Mr. McLaughlin) performed a song incorporating the 7 Principles of Kwanzaa. Several of the students read essays they had written about Kwanzaa. Finally, we were entertained by more music from the father and son team of Randolph M. McLaughlin, Esq. and Randolph Scott-McLaughlin II.
